Founded in 2019, Oshun's Garden was created to address the lack of culturally-specific spaces on the Shore, specifically those with Black women at the center. Through our flagship event and further assessment, we quickly uncovered a set of issues impacting the women in our community the most. It became clear that not only did we need spaces for cultural celebration, we also needed to mobilize our community to pursue the systems level change necessary for US to thrive.

We wholeheartedly believe that Black women need (and deserve) spaces intentionally created with us at the center. The challenges we face require solutions that are led by the community in focus and built on a foundation of lived experience.
Too often, mainstream approaches to support are generic and one-size-fits-all which make it hard for them to connect with Black women at a soul level. At Oshun’s Garden, we honor our traditions, wisdom, and ways of knowing as vital tools for the path forward.
